Kurzbeschreibung

Der Sonderforschungsbereich „ELAINE“ konzentriert sich auf neuartige, elektrisch aktive Implantate. Speziell werden Implantate erforscht, die für die Regeneration von Knochen und Knorpel eingesetzt werden, sowie Implantate für die Tiefe Hirnstimulation, um Bewegungsstörungen zu behandeln.

Dazu verfolgt der SFB drei zentrale Forschungsziele:

  • Schaffung innovativer energieautonomer Implantate, die eine rückgekoppelte elektrische Stimulation ermöglichen. So wird die Basis für neue medizinische Langzeitanwendungen und eine individuelle Therapie geschaffen, indem eine miniaturisierte elektronische Implantatplattform mit extrem niedrigem Stromverbrauch für alle elektrisch aktiven Implantate im Fokus von ELAINE konzipiert wird.
  • Entwicklung effizienter multiskaliger Simulationsmodelle, um rasche Fortschritte bei gezielten Implantatverbesserungen und patientenspezifischen Therapien zu ermöglichen. So werden neue Methoden zur Simulation von Biomaterial-Komposita, elektromagnetischem Stimulus lebender Zellen und die Validierung von Ergebnissen das grundlegende Verständnis weit über den Stand der Forschung hinaus vorantreiben.
  • Analyse der grundlegenden Mechanismen der elektrischen Stimulation in Knochen, Knorpel und Gehirn und Transfer dieses Wissen in die klinische Praxis.
