The pre-courses are a voluntary additional offer before the regular beginning of studies and take place before the start of the semester. They consist of a daily lecture and a daily exercise and deal with the topics arithmetic, powers, roots and logarithms, polynomials, trigonometry, differential calculus, integral calculus, finite sequences and series, systems of equations.

The pre-course course will help you to summarize, systematize and refresh your acquired mathematics knowledge. You will have te opportunity to look at the basics of mathematics from a perhaps for you new university view - as you need it for your studies.

Mathematics is an essential foundation and one of the most important tools for all courses offered at IEF. It is used to describe scientific processes and is itself the subject of research in the theoretical subjects.

Use the preliminary course for your study preparation! The number of places in the preliminary course for science and engineering subjects is limited to 300 places. This course is intensively searched. Timely registration is therefore required.

Mentoring for first semester students

The aim of mentoring is to actively support you in the initial phase of the study organization and settling in at the study location as well as any questions and problems that may arise.

You receive this support from students in higher semesters in your field, who draw on their own experience and have specially prepared for the job. You will get to know your mentors during orientation week.

Mentoring at the IEF is offered to all first-year bachelor and teaching students, as well as to students who have just come to Rostock for a master's degree.
