Computational Science and Engineering → Master

Computer-based modeling and simulations are a very powerful tool for answering questions, conducting virtual experiments, and supporting and verifying development work in industry, business, and science.

Computational Science and Engineering is a new, rapidly growing field based on the two classic disciplines of applied mathematics and computer science. The goal of this English-language, research-oriented Master's program is to develop the skills to perform computer simulations of technical and natural systems in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering, based on a solid understanding of numerical methods.

Numerical simulations enable the exploration of areas inaccessible to conventional experiments and investigation methods. As computers become ever faster, the scope of application for modeling and simulation is constantly expanding.

You can choose between two specializations: Computational Electrical Engineering or Computational Mechanical Engineering. In the first three semesters, you will deepen your knowledge of numerical mathematics, partial differential equations, and high-performance computing, and select modules from the respective module catalog according to your chosen specialization. Language courses are mandatory for all specializations. The fourth semester is dedicated to writing the Master's thesis.

The course is offered in English and is therefore equally suitable for English-speaking international students and for German-speaking students with very good English skills who aspire to an international career and want to intensively apply and further develop their English language skills in addition to acquiring specialist knowledge.
